Quick answers to common questions. Each links to the page with the full detail. New to the vocabulary? See the Glossary.
Is StableAccount a bank? No. StableAccount is designed to operate as a software interface and non-custodial technology provider — it does not consider itself a bank, a money transmitter that holds your funds, a broker-dealer, or an investment adviser (this is StableAccount’s characterization of its own activity, not a determination binding on any regulator). Your ”$” balance describes assets in your own self-custodial smart account, not a claim against StableAccount. See Overview and Compliance & risk.
Where is my money held? In accounts you control. You sign in via Privy, which provisions an embedded wallet whose keys are managed so transactions are authorized only through your login; each account is an ERC-4337 smart account you control. StableAccount never holds your funds or your keys. See Security and How it works.
Is my balance insured? No. There is no deposit insurance of any kind — not insured or guaranteed by any government or deposit-insurance scheme, anywhere — because your balance is not a bank deposit. Balances carry no principal guarantee and you may lose some or all of your funds. See Compliance & risk.
What is USDC / a stablecoin, and what is my ”$” balance actually made of? Your balance is USDC, a US-dollar stablecoin issued by Circle and intended to track approximately 1 USD. A stablecoin is a digital dollar designed to always be worth about $1. The peg is a design target, not a guarantee — depeg risk exists. See Money & fees and the Glossary.
Do I need ETH or any crypto to get started? No. Gas is always paid in USDC via a paymaster, so you never need to hold ETH or any native token. See How it works.
Do I need to understand crypto to use this? No. You use dollars, usernames (@handles), and links — the crypto is handled for you. See Overview.
How do I get paid? By @handle, by wallet address, or by a shareable payment link — depending on availability, the payer can use a supported chain, token, card, or bank, and where the route completes it settles in your account as ”$”. See Send & receive.
Can I cancel or reverse a payment? No. On-chain transactions are generally irreversible. Verify the recipient, amount, network, and asset before confirming — StableAccount cannot cancel, reverse, or refund a completed on-chain transaction. See Security.
Is Earn a guaranteed return? No. Earn is access to third-party DeFi lending markets (e.g. Morpho, Spark). APY is live, variable, and not guaranteed; it is not a deposit, is uninsured, and you bear smart-contract and market risk, including possible loss of principal. Withdrawals depend on protocol liquidity. See Earn.
Are confidential transfers anonymous? No. Confidential mode is intended to reduce how visible the counterparty and route are to outside observers but does not guarantee anonymity. On-chain transactions are inherently public, and where confidential routing is not available a transfer may run as a public cross-network swap (the app labels this). See Privacy & data.
What does it cost? A small network fee on transfers, a solver spread on cross-network/cross-token routing, and gas paid in USDC. Subscription plans (Free / Solo / Business) are billed via Paddle, with take-rate overage on some usage. MoonPay’s and Transak’s own fees apply to on-ramp and off-ramp respectively. See Money & fees and Pricing.
Who handles fiat and identity checks (KYC/AML)? Third-party providers under their own licenses — MoonPay for on-ramp (buying/adding dollars) and Transak for off-ramp (cashing out to bank or card). StableAccount does not custody fiat and does not itself perform identity verification for fiat movement; each provider’s regulatory status and availability are determined by that provider and vary by jurisdiction. See Convert to fiat and Third parties.
What happens if I lose access to my account? Because the account is non-custodial, if you lose access to your authentication method and any available recovery options, StableAccount cannot recover your funds, reset your keys, or reverse transactions. You are responsible for maintaining access. See Security.
Is my money safe if StableAccount goes out of business? Your funds are in your own self-custodial account, not with StableAccount, so they don’t disappear if StableAccount does. You would still need your login and any available recovery options to access them, and you’d interact with the underlying wallet and protocols directly. Access can also be affected by the third-party providers involved. See Security and Third parties.
Is StableAccount available everywhere? No. Availability and features vary by jurisdiction and some may be unavailable, restricted, or unlawful in certain regions. You are responsible for ensuring your use is lawful where you are located. See Compliance & risk.
Can I use StableAccount for my tax and accounting? It produces accountant-ready records and reports to assist you and your advisers. These are not legal, tax, or accounting advice, are user-editable, are not guaranteed to satisfy any jurisdiction’s rules, and you are responsible for verifying them. See Accounting & reports and Compliance & risk.
Is there a mobile app? StableAccount is an installable PWA you can add to any device today; a dedicated native mobile app is on the roadmap. See Getting started.
